MY 2015 HUNTING JOURNAL

Oct 3-Oct21
So far this is not looking too good for deer hunting. I did not get any DMAP tags for Clear Creek State Forest, so I only have my buck tag and a doe tag for 2F. I had a couple bucks and several does on pictures from my trail camera until mid-September, since then nothing. I turned an old hay shed that we no longer need for hay into a blind looking down over the back to the West about 100 yards from my trusty ground blind that looks South onto state game lands. I have a total of about 15 hours between the two blinds with no deer sightings.

SPECIAL FIREARMS SEASON (Oct22-Oct-24)

Oct22
Sat in "hay shed blind" for 2 hours at first light then moved to the ground blind until 10:30am. This morning I had a hunting buddy in the ground blind with me. Our barn cat "Willy Robertson" followed me to the blind and wanted inside to cuddle and nap before he went hunting and he was more successful than me. He got to chase a red squirrel, a chipmunk, and finally manger to catch a mouse, which he had to bring back for me to see. Maybe I need lessons from him on hunting.....

Oct23
I sat in the "hay shed blind" for 3 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the ground blind until dark. I saw only a Gray Squirrel just in front of the blind at about 8 feet sitting there looking at me.....

Oct24
After work (4:30pm) for 2 hours in ground blind in the rain and saw nothing..... after the first hour I heard "meow...meow" and there stood Willy wet from the rain wanting inside with me. I have no idea how he even knew I was there ???
Into the ground blind, up on my lap, followed by a one hour nap ......
It appears, from talking to hunters at the hardware, there does not seem to be any "chasing does " by the bucks yet in this area, so I still have hope for archery season the next 3 weeks.. I'll keep trying with the crossbow that's for sure.....

ARCHERY SUMMARY

Archery hunting SUCKED.. I saw deer only on the very last day... two deer .. a mother and her fawn stood in front of me at 30 yards for about 15 minutes.. always with one in front of the other.. at that distance with the crossbow I was afraid of hitting both of them ... finally the little one moved and took off and the mother immediately ran after her ..no shoot...

RIFLE SEASON
Rifle season was a bust.. no deer sited anywhere I hunted .....
