MY 2017 FISHING JOURNAL

APRIL FISHING

Saturday 22nd =
Chilly, windy, and the water level was really cloudy, high and fast. Fished the Clarion River where Spring Creek empties into the river. Only fished for an hour..too cold... I did have a fish on but it got off before I could see it.

Sunday 23rd =
Fished 2.5 hours at the same spot, water color was much better and not quite as fast today. Had a Smallmouth SMASH my nightcrawler and came close to pulling the rod into the river.

Wednesday 26th =
Today was a trip to the Clarion River below where Toby Creek empties into the river. Water color, height, and flow were great. Fish just were not too co-operative. The first catch was a medium sized Sucker. I only had 6 crawlers so I tried to be careful, I did manage 2 snags and lost those baits. The next 3 crawlers were stolen with bites that I just did not set the hook properly or quick enogh. I put on a butter worm and threw to that same spot and WHAM fish on. Fished for just 1.5 hours but did enjoy the trip..

Thursday 27th =
Managed to get out on my favorite old rocks and fish the deep hole... AGAIN .... this year it appears the game fish are not there ... hooked and landed probably 50 Creek Chubs.. any where from 2 inches to about 6 inches. I just did not want to abandon this spot but those DAMN things ate all my bait without a single bite from any other type of fish. I just can't figure out why for the last three years this spot has basically SUCKED BIG TIME....

Friday 28th =
Finally returned to Belltown for some Clarion River fishing. The trip was nice but the fishing was NOT........... another day of only those darn Creek Chubs biting... can't figure out why so much this year .. sure hope those things do not ruin my river fishing ...

MAY FISHING

Monday 15th =
I fished the Clarion River again this afternoon for 2 hours. I landed 2 Brook Trout, a Hellbender, and 2 LARGE suckers. The current was very swift and the wind was blowing, fishing was tough because of that.. AS USUAL ..I did enjoy the trip.

Friday 19th =
I fished a couple old spots on the Clarion River at Belltown for 2 hours this afternoon and only managed some more of those damn Creek Chubs..
Crawlers are getting too expensive to be feeding and catching those damn things.

Saturday 27th =
I fished a couple hours at Portland Mills, was not to thrilled because the store was out of worms so I only had a few garden worms I found under some rocks at home. To my surprise those tiny things did catch some fish. I lost one and landed three.. a Brook Trout, a Brown Trout and a Smallmouth. ...

JUNE FISHING

Friday 2nd =
Fished Portland Mills area for three hours, fishing was difficult because the wind was howling in that hollow.. Missed a ton of strikes, but I did land 4 Brook Trout.......

Saturday 3rd =
I fished a couple hours on the Clarion early this morning.
Fishing was pretty good for the first hour then it died.
I am still surprised at how cold the water is, and with the recent rain, it is still very high and fast. Really hard keeping the bait near bottom and not snagging. Trout are just "nibbling" not really "attacking" the bait.
I landed three trout.. Brook, Brown, and finally a Rainbow...
Saw 4 deer and a Gray Squirrel on the way over..

Saturday 10th =
I tried my #1 Clarion River spot and once again the creek chubs were bait stealers....so I only got to fish for 1.5 hours and the bait was gone. Did land one Smallmouth and lost one heck of a fish, I did not get to see but fought for about 5 minutes before the salmon egg size hook came out... BUMMER

Sunday 11th =
Finding a fishing spot ( for the very first time in lord knows how many years) was tough this afternoon.. people swimming and resting on the rocks with their tubes, canoes, etc...
Ended up in Belltown, at a not so favorite spot., I did catch 3 fish.. a Brown Trout and 2 small Smallmouths.

Fished for two hours after work from 5-7pm. I wanted to see if I could catch the two fish I lost at a spot on previous trips. I did just that .. two large Channel Catfish... also caught some Creek Chubs and one Rock Bass..
